Some motorcycle forks, for both road and offroad machines, will be designed
with some preload built into the main spring when the fork is in the fully extended
state (also known as ‘topped out’). This can be undesireable as some riders won’t
be able to set the preload correctly for their weight.
All K-Tech Spring Perch Kits are designed to remove built in preload when the clip
is set at the 0 mm position.
For this particular fork: SHOWA 49mm MX (500mm Spring)
The built in preload is 5 mm.
When the circlip is set to 0 mm on this spring perch kit, the preload on the main
spring will be reduced by 5 mm.
Spring preload can be adjusted between -2 mm & +10 mm, giving a wide range of
preload values to suit various riding styles and abilities.
RECOMMENDED SETTINGS
Preload Clip Position: 0 mm
Oil Volume: Standard Volume
Recommended Oil: K-Tech HPSF (5 wt.)
Fork Position: Manufacturer Spec
